- More than 1,000 surgeries per year
Brain tumors are generally still considered incurable in modern medicine. The reason is that the brain is made up of important structures that directly control body functions, so very precise surgical techniques are needed to remove the tumors in the brain. And malignant tumors, that account for more than half of the brain tumors, can not be removed completely because they have no clear boundaries with normal tissue. Therefore, in order to effectively treat such brain tumors, it is necessary not only highly skilled surgical techniques, but also complex treatment plans such as advanced equipment, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy necessary for accurate diagnosis and precise surgical planning.
Seoul National University Hospital has been leading the treatment of brain tumors in Korea for half a century, meeting all these conditions. More than 1,000 brain tumor surgeries are operated annually, and the outstanding results are published in more than 20 papers each year through the world's leading academic journals. In particular, we are doing our best to improve the quality of life and cure the tumor through a combination of various treatments such as Gamma Knife surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy.
